Microbiome signatures are only valid for specific age groups. The reason for this is that they are
based on scientific studies and datasets that include specific ages. Other age ranges may be
important as well, but without supportive literature, we can not consider them biomarkers with
predictive power. This is why an infant may be “out of range” for a microbiome signature. In the
future, developing research may lead to adjusting the age range for a specific microbiome
signature.
If you are out of the age range window, you may still view the microbes in the signature and your relative abundance of each microbe. However, the most value of your test will come from the Key Insights and Action Plan. The test will still help you determine any current imbalances in your gut that need to be addressed. By understanding your gut community, you can take action to optimize and course correct the gut and set the foundation for lifelong gut health.
If your the condition is already already present, the predictive signatures aren't as useful. However, the microbiome report is still useful to determine what underlying gut imbalances are triggering the symptoms and how we can address those imbalances to course correct, improve the gut and hopefully reduce symptoms.
