In general, yes, however, there are a couple things you should consider:
- What is the purpose of each probiotic, and what is the desired outcome of each? This will generally be answered by what species and strains of bacteria they contain. For example, you may want to take a probiotic with Bifidobacterium and another probiotic with Akkermansia for metabolic health, it may make sense to take both. If your two probiotics contain the same or similar strains, note that more is not necessarily better.
- Taking multiple products will make it hard to isolate any effects that you or your child is experiencing. For example, if your child starts having easier and more consistent stools, it will be hard to figure out if the benefit was from probiotic A or probiotic B. We recommend taking one product for 2 weeks before introducing another product, to help isolate the effects.
- And as always, check the manufacturer’s instructions if they have any specific guidance on combining probiotics.
