Recovering from a miscarriage can temporarily affect your gut microbiome. Waiting until your body has had time to recover can help provide a more representative picture of your typical gut microbiome.
If your miscarriage was uncomplicated
If you're recovering well, are no longer experiencing symptoms, and are not taking antibiotics, we recommend waiting 2–4 weeks after your miscarriage before collecting your stool sample.
If you took antibiotics
If you were prescribed antibiotics, we recommend waiting 4–6 weeks after completing your antibiotic course before testing. Antibiotics can significantly affect your gut bacteria, so allowing time for recovery can help provide a more representative baseline.
If you're still recovering
If you're experiencing ongoing bleeding, fever, signs of infection, or other complications, it's best to wait until you've recovered before collecting your sample.
